Qazi came to the National Careers Service for CV support and job search guidance. He met with Zeb, a National Careers Service careers adviser.
At the time of his appointment with Zeb, Qazi had been in the UK for six months. During their face to-face session, Qazi shared his background and the ways the National Careers Service could support him.
Although Qazi communicated well in English, he expressed a desire for further support to improve his confidence. He had previously worked in various roles within banking, eventually managing personal banking.
Zeb provided guidance to help Qazi enhance his employability skills, including advice on improving his CV. Qazi was open to working in any role, with the goal of rebuilding his career. He explored the National Careers Service website with its many job profiles in fields such as administration, banking, and warehouse work. The pair also discussed transferable skills and identified how they could be applied to different roles. Qazi said: “I am happy that Zeb was honest with my CV and what employers look for when applying for work.”
Zeb gave further advice by suggesting different methods of job-searching. Alternative options like volunteering, apprenticeships, and traineeships were explored alongside, though Qazi preferred to pursue these only if other opportunities would not work out for him. He said:
“I was provided with an action plan with a clear pathway of action and goals
and how to carry these out. This helped push me in the right direction.”
Following his appointment, Qazi successfully secured a job as a packer in a warehouse. While the role did not align with his long-term career goals, it marked a significant achievement in his career journey in the UK.
